For these British capitalists, it is important to create civilization and increase the community ties of their citizens and neighbors, taking advantage of corporate infrastructure and customer relations.

British supermarket and gas station chain Asda creates community spirit and civilization by selling unlimited meals and coffee at just £1 (USD 1) for customers and neighbors over 60 and their grandchildren. This activity will be offered until the end of February 2025.
The offer consists of assorted hot soup, a roll and unlimited tea and coffee for only £1 (USD 1). Choose from tomato, chicken or vegetable soup, and is available to anyone aged 60 and over.
In the first two weeks, more than 60,000 meals have already been served to pensioners in the city of Bolton.
Asda’s Community and Customer Champions are also inviting and encouraging many local groups and individuals over the age of 60 to come to their Chatty Café store in Bolton to use the £1 winter hot meal as an opportunity to come and chat with others and build neighbourly and inter-personal links and relationships.
Statistical research suggests that one in 10 seniors say they have been to a supermarket simply to talk to someone else. Going to the supermarket serves to build community relationships.
Nearly one in five (17 percent) said there were days when they did not speak to a single soul, and during the two-and-a-half week period from mid-December through the end of the year, 15 percent said they got into the habit of not conversing with others.
The business chain first launched its «winter warmers» in November 2022 for two months in a bid to support older customers who were disproportionately affected by the rising cost of living, with those aged 65 to 74 experiencing a £163 year-on-year drop in disposable income in August 2022.
The initiative served more than 1.2 million soup meals and the Company has now bought back the agreement until February 28 in 2025.
The offer is available all day, every day and will run alongside the ‘Kids Eat for £1 (USD 1)’ offer which continues to be very popular, with over 4.9 million meals served since its launch in June 2022, and over 1.8 million in the last year alone.
Grandparents can bring their grandchildren and everyone eats at Asda Café’s for only £4 (USD 4) (2 adults, 2 children).
The latest figures from Asda’s income tracker reveal that lower income households will continue to feel the impact of the cost of living crisis for a little longer.
The purchasing power of these households is increasing more slowly than others, which means that for many people, their net income does not cover bills and essential expenses, leaving them with an average weekly shortfall of £66 (USD 66).
Selected Asda stores also run a «Community Mug» campaign creating space for community groups that might otherwise find it difficult to meet due to rental costs or high energy costs.
